This castle was built around 1300 in the middle part of the Zemplén Mountains.
Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor ordered General Caprara to have the castle destroyed in 1686. A part of the castle was restored in the recent years.
The floor area of the castle was originally smaller than today: there was a tower on the northern cliff and to the south there was a yard with wooden buildings surrounded by walls. This small castle was completely converted at the end of the 15t century, then from the middle of the 16th century it was considerably extended to the south. It was completed in the 17th century, when it was also used as the residence of its owners (Serédy, Alaghy, Rákóczi family). Inside the castle, various palace wings, a chapel, farm-buildings and bastions as well as a special parlour covered with Turkish tiles were built. The replica of this parlour can be seen in Sárospatak.
