The building originating in the 14th century was rebuilt in romantic- eclectic style according to the plans of Ybl Miklós from 1857 to 1859.
The building outside shows the spirit of the romanticism, but inside Italian renaissance waits for the visitor. Its fine stone-work, marble fireplaces, door frames, reliefs are all the works of masters from Florence in the 16-17th centuries. They had decorated Italian renaissance palaces.
At the end of the 19th century, the lord of the mansion, Károlyi László decided to have original renaissance made in their home. They collected decorations and furniture from the renaissance and early baroque for almost 2 decades. They did most of their shopping at the most famous art dealers in Florence, getting original Italian renaissance artwork. Some of the artwork disappeared during WWII, but several decorations and furniture were returned. The mansion was reopened in the 1990s.
The huge park belonging to the mansion is special as it was designed by the main gardener of Napoleon III, and since 1975 it has been a nature reserve, a botanical garden, the most beautiful and hugest park in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county.
The redecorated mansion with its park means unforgettable experiences for the whole family! Visit it.
